Yummy Feet

Mmmm...feet
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
So, she's found 'em...and boy do they taste good. Over the past few days Leah has become more and more interested in her feet. What's really funny is that this new interest also seems to include other peoples feet. I see her eyeing-up mine sometimes. Thankfully she can only get her own in her mouth. All this foot tasting has brought new life to many activities. Changing a baby who's got feet in her mouth is an interesting process. This picture isn't the greatest...as it doesn't show the actual toes in the mouth. But perhaps that's one of those things that's always cuter to the parent than other people. Well the Little Miss is making herself known with some pretty loud cries. I better go. She's in the exer-saucer and she's probably upset that she can't get her feet in her mouth. Have a great day!

I have been looking for an excuse to use the word "jaunty!"

Off to the Races

Another awesome outfit from Carole and her girls. I love hand-me-downs! Isn't the hat adorable? I love how Leah's wearing it with a jaunty litte tilt. She looks as if she's off to the races...

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always dreamed of going to the Kentucky Derby and wearing a big hat. It's one of the goals on my list of 43 Things (a fantistic website that I just discovered). I recently linked up my list to the blog and you can see it down the left side of the page with all of the other links and such. I'm hoping that having this running list written down somewhere (even if it's just in cyberspace) will encourage me to really see some of them through.

Thay range from mundane ("drink more water") to life changing ("have another baby" someday, that is...not right now). The site is fun because it allows you to check out other people's goals and get inspired. For all the crazy travelers out there, there's also a site called 43 places. I like that one too.

Well, since I have my work cut out for me trying to teach Leah sign language and worry less...among other things, I guess aspirations like going to the derby will have to wait. Until I can get there, I'll dream of going to Saratoga and wearing a medium sized hat. That's do-able. Maybe one that matches a cute little outfit, like the one Leah's got on? She truly is the ultimate inspiration for meeting all of my goals and dreams.

Another hot one...

Leah&UncleMike
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
Leah and I had a busy day yesterday. We went to visit with a business contact in the morning and did our best to survive the heat. My Aunt Marsha and Uncle Mike were in town so they stopped by mid-day to visit with us. It was such a nice break and we loved the company. Leah was a little too busy checking out Aunt Marsha and her camera to smile for my photo, but I thought this was a cute one nonetheless (love the leg pose!). Thanks Uncle Mike and Aunt Marsha!

After that Leah had some yummy oatmeal and peaches. You've gotta see the face she makes with the peaches people. Leah looks totally disgusted as it goes in, but some how manages to get it down. Sweet potatoes are next on the list. We went outside to catch a few rays and chat with our neighbor Sue and decided it was best to hurry back in so Leah could take a bath (we only have one air conditioning unit and it's in the office). The bath helped with the crankiness and there was much splashing and giggling. It's another hot one today. Stay cool everybody.

Sprout

Pebbles&BamBam
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
Pete had to go for a haircut this weekend, so we took Leah along for the ride. She stirred up quite a commotion at the shop with how much she's grown and changed. Of course all of the ladies took notice of her hair. Pete's hairdresser Kathryn took it upon herself to give Leah her first ponytail and since all of Leah's hair is pretty much right on top of her head, that's where the ponytail had to be. Hence the Pebbles look. I think Leah actually enjoyed it and Kathryn sent me home with little baby elastic bands in just about every color. Now if I ever need to create my own little sprout on Leah, I'll have a ponytail holder to match whatever she's wearing.

The rest of the weekend was nice. Very relaxing. Perhaps that's why Leah decided to wake up at 5 am this morning? I guess she wanted to let me know that it's Monday. Back to work...and with the most demanding (but cute) boss ever!

My Ivory Snow Girl

Laundry Baby
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
So in an attempt to streamline my crazy life I took one of my Mom's suggestions (get just one big chore a day done and you will feel more accomplished) and made Thursday "Laundry Day." I still need to fill in a few other days and I'm not completely organized just yet, but I did manage to get some laundry done yesterday and Leah helped! In an effort to soothe the savage beast, I got creative and stuck Leah in the basket with all of the warm, clean clothes while I folded. She really seemed to enjoy it and it added some variety to our usual drill of going around and sampling each toy in the house until she tires of it and moves on to the next. Somedays it feels like a never ending cycle! I may have to throw one of Pete's shirts right back in the laundry (you know Leah and her penchant for sucking on yummy clothing) but it was worth it. She was happy and as you can see from the picture, super adorable. We had so much fun, it hardly seemed like work. Have a great weekend everyone and if you need help with your laundry I'll just send LeLe over to help.

Hot Seat

Hot Seat
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
So, not all bouncy seats can live forever. I discovered this when I realized Leah's aquarium chair was only good until she could sit up unassisted. I'm not sure Leah's there just yet, but she's close. And she was already tipping herself dangerously close to pitching over the side with her he-woman attempts trying to sit up. As a result, we needed a new chair. That's when the infant to toddler rocker came to the rescue.

Thankfully this one's good for quite a while. I have to watch for toy-burnout though. Leah lives to play these days and can tire of toys pretty quickly if we're not careful. I try to rotate things as often as possible. It's always fun to bust one out that she hasn't seen in a while. She always seems to remember the toy, but it can eek out quite a few more minutes of interest since it's been hidden under the couch or stuck at the bottom of the basket for a few weeks.

All is right in the infant seat world now. At least in our minds. Leah's gotten very good at tugging the little cow on the chair that plays music. I now hear Old McDonald in my dreams...

Peaches and Gramps

Peaches and Gramps
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
I know I already did a Father's Day shot, but I couldn't resist featuring this one of my Dad and Leah as well. I can't believe I caught them both with such big smiles! My Dad and Leah always seem to have so much fun together. He helped me give her a bath while he was up here visiting and we got to sing her the bathtime song he always sang to me, "a baby prune is like her dad..." Dad calls Leah Peaches and together they sound sort of like their own 70's singing duo, "Peaches and Gramps." This girl definitely has her share of nicknames...I love it!!

Today Leah will have her first professional, non-family babysitter experience, as I go deliver a seminar on business creativity to a group of women entrepreneurs. I'm sure it will be tougher on me than on her...after all, I'll only be gone about 2 hours. But, in 6 short months this little baby really has become my world and when I'm away from her, I miss her so! Still, it's good for her to socialize and what baby couldn't use a little time away from Mommy? It will make our time together later this afternoon all the more sweet. Have a great day.

Sittin' Pretty

Sittin' Pretty
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
OK, so Leah's hair is a little messy here but we had just finished up a pretty active and intense play session on the floor. I think I've mentioned before that Leah is now all about trying to sit up or be held in a standing position. The boppy pillow provides some nice support and allows Leah to practice sitting by herself. She can't stay upright for a very long period of time so the boppy is right there to catch her when she tips over to one side. I have to stick right with her though because most of the time she just seems to pitch herself forward in an attempt to crawl away and grab some object of her desire (namely the television remote). Too bad she can't crawl yet. She mostly just reaches and does "the superman." I can almost see the wheels turning in Leah's head as she gazes at it, "Oh Remote, how you tease me with your many colorful buttons!" We'll keep practicing our prop-sitting and I'll be looking into getting Leah some sort of play remote (she already has a toy cell-phone). Still I know it will never be as exciting as the real one. This is such a busy but exciting time as Leah really begins to change and grow!

Father's Day

Father's Day
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
We took this photo outside The Brewster Inn where we had an excellent Father's Day brunch with my parents and Pete's Mom. Leah was wearing outfit number 2 here (since she exploded right through outfit 1). Luckily both outfits were very cute. And the sailor themed one in the picture seems quite appropriate as they pose in front of the boats and lake. Leah is so lucky to have a Dad and Grandfather (and a Great Grandpa) who love her so! I think it was a special Father's day for all present...Pete's first father's day and my Dad's first father's day as a Grandpa. Based on the smiles in the picture I think they were pretty happy. I know how happy Leah is to have these two and a few other positive male role models in her life...her uncles, great uncles, cousins, friends...the list goes on! Happy (belated) father's day to all.

Enquiring Minds Want to Know

Enquiring Minds...
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
So, as Leah and I spent some time on the floor yesterday, sampling each and every toy with the hope that maybe she'd stick with one for more than two minutes, she noticed this month's issue of InStyle sitting close by. Katie Holmes was the cover girl. It was as if she said "Forget toys! I want to know what's going on with 'TomKat!'" Silly Mommy, celeb gossip knows no age limits, and as you can see from the shot the Lamaze clutch cube was quickly ditched for some light reading (and attempts at eating the pages). Again I wonder...does designer taste better?

Regardless, Leah seems to be truly in-step with Hollywood happenings, as today Tom and Katie are engaged. We discussed motives and Leah, ever the optimist seems to feel it just might be true-love. Myself, I'm not too sure. Anyway, I'm hoping that issue has some hair tips in it since LeLe's mop seems to be growing in sort of funkily. You can reference the picture if need be. We've started experimenting with clips but that doesn't really help us with the strange rooster like group of hairs that have taken up residence on the back of her head. I know there's a breck girl in there somewhere! As my Grandma McKenna says..."you've got to train that hair!" Eventually we'll get it to do what we want. Have a great weekend!

More Aunties

K and Le
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
I decided every auntie needs her day in the sun. So this can be Auntie K's day (even if there isn't a ray of sunshine in the sky!). Leah reminds me a lot of K, who is also her Godmother. Ever since Leah was born, no one can be quite sure where her nose came from. To me it looks closest to Kathleen's, so I guess the similarities started back then. I quickly learned that Leah is also very strong-willed, just like Kathleen!

They also both have faces that truly light up when they are happy and smiling. It's infectious. I love that about both my sister and my daughter. Kathleen chose to show off their happy side here, while Leah went with the more serious "are you talkin' to us?" (said in the DeNiro voice) look. Believe me I've seen both of them give that look before...

We cannot wait for our new cousin/niece!! I am so looking forward to sharing the excitement, joy and difficulties of Motherhood with my sister. It has already been such a gift to have each other to lean on during our pregnancies. Thanks for all your support Kathleen!

Next up, we will have to do a mini photo shoot with Aunt Anne when we head up to see Pete's family for the fourth of July. A local park has great fireworks that you can see from their backyard! I'm sure Leah will be fast asleep by the time they get going. Hopefully they won't startle her awake! Alright everyone, have a fabulous day. I taught Leah "rain, rain, go away..." this morning but I actually think she sort of likes the peaceful sounds of rain falling. Maybe I should take a cue from Leah and relax, letting the peaceful sounds of rain wash over me...

One for Mama

One for Mama

So this picture was chosen purely for my benefit. It's not the greatest picture ever. The very cute socks from H&M are making Leah's feet look unusually large, her skirt is all askew, and she doesn't have her most photo-ready look on. Still, she looks so sweet to me.

There are also a few nice things about this photo. I love Pete's smile here. He also always holds Leah up this way as they play and talk and look at each other. It's a Daddy/Daughter thing I guess. And maybe it's the artist in me, but I really love the way the color of their outfits compliment each other.

Father's Day is this weekend, so I figured I should get in a picture for me while I can. One that shows just an ordinary Sunday afternoon with my little family happy and playing together. It's just the way I like them!

Aunties

Hey!
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
I've been telling a lot of people just how Leah's personality has been coming out full-force this week. This picture shows just how much Leah loves interacting with people (and the camera). Devon is doing some work with her graduate school's infancy institute this summer. And while I always knew she was gifted teacher and caregiver when it came to pre-schoolers and toddlers, she also really enjoys babies. Leah responds to her so well too, as she does to all of her Aunts. Leah loves get cuddled by Pete's sister Anne and be carried around by my sister Kathleen (I wonder if the pregnant belly provides a nice resting spot?). She is also very excited about the Elmo doll K gave her this weekend. As for Auntie D, Leah can't get enough of that interactive and educational play! I think my own song and play repertoire might need a little refreshing, but Devon keeps me posted on emerging trends in infant/parent development and is always there with a song or activity when I need a break. Thanks Dev!

Heatwave

Pretzel Toes
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
Boy is it hot! Nothing like cooling off with a little fun though right? That's what we did this weekend at Jonathan's party. Jonathan's Mommy Jennifer is one of my oldest friends. Everyone had a great time...especially Leah. After all, it's not a party until someone's got pretzels on their toes! You can thank Uncle Mark for that one. Leah's not sure what to think, but I'll bet she'll be getting Uncle Mark back at a later date. Watch out Mark...

Leah is a whole new baby, yet again! It's almost impossible to feed her these days. She either wants to be propped up sitting, or held to be "standing." No lying down like a little baby here (that is unless she's really tired). She's constantly grabbing for eeeverything now...the remote, the fringe on a blanket, poor Lemmy and just about anything that's a few tantalizing inches out of reach. She also is beginning to "call for me" when I leave her playing by her self for too long in the bouncy seat or exer-saucer. That's my cue! Stay cool people!

Hot town, summer in the city

Delicious Dress
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
It has been hot, hot, hot here! As a result I've been dressing Leah in lots of little sundresses to help keep her cool. As you can see from the picture she hasn't yet mastered the lady-like art of not eating her dress. They just taste too good! So far she has sampled Carter's, Nautica, Little Me and even a little Ralph Lauren. I wonder, does designer taste better?

We've got Jonathan's 1st birthday this weekend and we're looking forward to seeing Auntie K, who will be supplying us with a new cousin soon! I hope the weather stays sunny, even if it can't manage to cool off a little. Enjoy the weekend everybody!!!!

Boring dinner

SleepyToys
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
I snagged this shot during dinner lastnight. Perhaps it's time to move Leah's bedtime a bit earlier? We ususally set her up with some toys in her highchair and she generally enjoys dinner (in spirit) along with us. But lastnight after a minute of looking glazed over...she just conked out. It was sort of cute. Of course it could also be due to the fact that I only managed to get one good nap in for her during the afternoon. Usually she naps in the morning, but since our gutters were being replaced yesterday morning it was just a little too noisy for her to settle down. Oh well, I'm no slave to a schedule. Summer and the heat seem to naturally be changing the way our routine goes anyway. Or perhaps it could be that leah's 5 months old now and has different needs. I'm sure she will give the whoozit and her lamaze cube much attention today. We don't want the toys getting a complex now do we...

Ch, Ch, Ch...Changes!

Leah Loves Daddy
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
This shot just goes to show how much Leah loves to play with Pete. I had a meeting lastnight to help organize our neighborhood art show, Art on The Porches. Pete took over bedtime duties with spirit and extreme patience. I heard there was some bigtime tears, but he got her to take a bottle and eventually get to bed. He's a great Dad.

Now that we're into our 5th month, it's amazing what a different baby Leah has become. The horrible fussy time at the end of the day is long gone and is replaced by excitement for when Pete gets home. I love to watch him lift Leah up so he can get a good look at her after a long day at work. I enjoy reporting on the fun moments and crazy mishaps of our day at home and around town. Pete and Leah play and giggle and Lele gets her daily dose of Daddy-hugs and squeezing. I am beginning to understand what people mean when they say "It goes so fast."

Coconut balls and clothing

Ball of Goodness
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
This weekend we went to our local "Taste of..." festival. We had a great time. Leah's arms got a little too much sun, but she's already back to her usual self. She was pretty excited about most of the food we got, but as you can see from the photo she was most intrigued by the giant coconut ball Pete had. Having never had this sort of coconut ball myself, I have to say it was really good. Leah's already got good taste.

Now that my girl is almost out of the woods with all this cold and congestion stuff, I can't wait to really make some headway with solid foods. I can tell by the look on her face when anyone eats anything around the kid...she's hungry for it! It will be a nice addition to nursing.

We got two new boxes of clothes from my cousin Carole yesterday. They are AWESOME! Get ready for Leah's parade of outfits this summer people. It's going to be a regular fashion show here on the blog. Thanks Carole. Enjoy the day everyone.

Charmed, I'm sure!

Exer-Saucer
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
We had a great weekend. Sure, we didn't get as much done around the house as we would have liked to, but we had fun. We planted some flowers, went to Delta-Sonic (a very fun car-washing experience), and grilled out, among many other activities. We even managed to watch "The Aviator." Leah played A LOT and got a few blessings at church. Her new thing is enjoying her swing...as long as it's outside. The toy she once shunned now seems to be her al-fresco favorite. Here she is in her exer-saucer. I have such a great time watching her in it. She grabs, twirls, and mouths all of the various jungle-themed items with such gusto!

Last but not least, my mothers day present came in! Pete got me the most beautiful charm bracelet. I wanted a T-clasp and as a result I had to wait a few weeks while they customized one. It's lovely. It has two charms, silver baby shoes and a little white gold medallion with our birthstones, a garnet for Leah and a sapphire for me. On the back it has our birthdates engraved. I love it!! I've already noticed Leah eyeing it up. I guess she's a girl after my own heart!

Everybody's Workin' for the Weekend

HauntingEyes
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
I took this photo yesterday as I tried to get a jump on Leah's 5 month picture. I got a bunch of neat shots, but none that show her entire 5-month old self in the big chair. That's ok. I really like this one. I don't get "serious" photos of Leah very often. Pete says she has "haunting eyes" here. I say she's not at all sad, just tired. That and her right arm was stuck between two pillows.

Check out the lovely rash in the crook of her left arm. I have a feeling summer is going to leave Lele a little dermatologically challenged. If you look closely, you'll also notice the barrette in her hair. She's gettting to be such a big girl now. This weekend our plan is to work on resting and doing things around the house. That is, if Leah decides to let us do either. Lately she rarely is as still and quiet as she looks in this photo (maybe that's why I like it so much?). No...I'm actually delighted by my active and crazy baby! In fact...she's calling to me right now. Enjoy the weekend. I hope there's warm and sunny weather for all!

More fun with baby friends

Beckett and Leah a tad older
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
One highlight of my visit to NP last week was getting to spend time with my friends and some of their children. I'm sure you remember the picture I featured of Leah and my friend Cynthia's baby, Beckett on March 31st. Here they are again and it's amazing to me how much they've grown. Beckett is really smiley now and Leah found him so funny! I love how she's grabbing his foot in this shot. Both babies are a lot less "floppy" and they had a great time sampling every toy in Cyn's house and checking each other out. Leah loved Beckett's exer-saucer so much we had to run out and buy one for ourselves! Thanks to Cynthia for her hospitality (she makes an awesome roast beef sandwich if you are ever in NP!). It is such a gift to share the experience of motherhood with such a dear friend.

Hangin' in there...

Hikin' at Pratt's Falls

I thought this one was really cute and I figured the distant shot of Leah below would not do it for some of Leah's loyal fans. Those people who need an infusion of cuteness everyday while they drink their morning coffee or try to wind down from the workday. This was before the crankiness, exhaustion, and illness fully set in. I just keep reminding myself that if we take care of ourselves and each other, Leah and I will be back to normal in no time.

Memorial Day Weekend

Ohio Loves Leah
Originally uploaded by epmdesigner.
Here's the crew from Ohio on a hike with us to Pratt's Falls. It was a short but enjoyable hike. Leah seemed to really like hiking in the Bjorn with Daddy. Brent, Amy, Rob and Robin arrived on Saturday and Leah took a shine to each one! In fact she ended up getting very cranky late Sunday afternoon because she was so excited to have everyone around. With all the visitors Leah was refusing to get some much needed shut-eye! What can I say? She's a party animal! The girl never wants to miss out on anything. We're still recovering here. But we miss our visitors already. Leah can't wait to try on all the cute outfits she got and to sit and splash in the baby pool Brent and Amy got her this summer. I hear my little one coughing now so I better go check on her. Enjoy the day. I hope it's sunny where you are!
