Well, I have to say that Leah did me proud. Her Oscar predictions were right on target. As far as Oscar fashion, Leah (and I) thought Cate Blanchett looked the prettiest. We admired the risk she took wearing yellow, a tough color for blondes, and we thought the burgundy accents were unexpected.
We were lucky that Leah even made it through the weekend though, due to a recent aquarium bouncy seat breakdown. Things started to go awry last weekend...no happy shooting bubbles and scary, slowed down music...but 2 packs and $14 worth of D batteries later we realized this was not something we could fix. This meant more tears, and no smiling, spinning starfish to help take them away. Very distressing.
But as you can see from the photo, we're back and better than ever, with a new bouncy seat. We brought the broken one back and traded it in for a newer model. It cost us $5 extra but hey, it is worth it. Leah is so thankful to have it back, she even took a break from kicking and playing to smile for this picture. What a ham!
In other news, Leah slept through the night last night. I'm trying not to get too excited about it though, as it could be just a fluke or her way of saying thanks for getting her bouncy seat back. We'll see...

Have baby, will travel
We had a request for Oscar predictions from Ms. Erin Jackson, so I had a chat with Leah about it. Judging from her smiles and coos, it seems she backs Jamie Foxx for Best Actor. Otherwise it's all Million Dollar Baby. I'm wondering if Leah isn't supporting the movie solely because it has the word "baby" in it though. We'll see how she does Sunday night.
I took today's picture while out on one of our many excursions yesterday. People LOVE the bear coat from Grammy McKenna and I just got a complement on her blanket today. Thanks to Cousin Kate for that lovely gifty. As you can tell she uses it a ton. And when she's not using it, I use it (*smile*).
But my favorite part of this picture are the two little fingers Leah has poking out from her mitten sleeves. It's never the whole hand, just one finger (usually the middle one too!). No matter how often I re-wrap her hands, she still manages to get one finger out and ready to scratch that pretty little face. I wonder what she's trying to tell me?

Hooray for Hollywood
It's award season and with the Oscars on Sunday night, Leah wants to be red carpet ready. So I lent her my InStyle Magazine. I believe I have a little starlet in training. It's been a BUSY day, but a good one. Leah was a smiley and patient girl, sitting and amusing herself with some rattles and toys while I actually got some work done! We drove Pete to work today (his car is in the shop for some preventative maintenence) and now have to go and pick him up. Leah really enjoys the car these days. Something I am thankful for. It makes travel a lot easier. Well, we better be off. Enjoy the academy awards this weekend. I'll post Leah's thoughts on Oscar fashion on Monday...

Sweet Feet
Note the absence of punctuation in today's title. This is because I realized that (in complete Sienfeld fashion) I was abusing exclamation points in previous posts. What can I say? We're excited!
One thing we are excited about is that Leah's rash is clearing up. It's a slow process and it has meant a lot more tub time in an effort to keep her all fresh and clean. I snapped this photo of her "monkey toes" (a nickname she had before she even left the hospital) while Pete held her in the football position and washed her hair. I couldn't resist. Speaking of hair, some of Leah's has begun to fall out/rub off. Her Florence Henderson 70s mullet has now morphed into Alfalfa meets Donald Trump's comb over. Somehow she still manages to look cute though.
But back to those feet. Check out the curl on that pinky-- Outstanding! I fully expect to come home one day and find her upside down and swinging from a chandelier. Leah's got quite the grip with those toes. I'm not usually a big foot person, but there is something about baby feet. So cute!
Apparently people still can't comment, so I'm working on that. I'll keep you all posted (literally!) when I know more. Leah thanks you for your patience.

Hello, my name is Adorable!
Not much to say today, except that the featured picture is my new favorite. It completely captures Leah's emerging personality: a little sugar, a lot of spice, and a very healthy dose of everything nice. I love her rosy cheeks, her baby smile, the mischevious but loving look in her eyes, and of course the funky hair! Well, there is lots of work to do this morning. It's wedding invitation central! I better get a few things done while my sweet pea naps.

Let's get physical!
It's barely 9 yet and Leah has already had a busy morning of eating, pooping, catnapping, and playing with her activity gym seen here. She loves the thing now that Mommy finally had the sense to lower all the cute hanging toys a little closer to her face. Today she was even batting at them in all her 7 week old glory!
Leah is a gassy baby (as anyone who has met her knows) but she finds music very soothing. Dancing to "Hot in Herre" and "Yeah!" always seem to provide some relief. Seriously, I think the girl loves Lil' John. I'm going to get her a "crunk" sippy cup some day.
But lately Leah has been feeling the folk and modern rock tunes a bit more. She currently recommends the "Garden State" Soundtrack and thanks Auntie Devon for introducing her to it. Track 8, "One of These Things First" by Nick Drake, is her favorite. It's very pretty and puts her right to sleep. She's sawing wood right now in fact...good night...

Hey Ladies!
Sorry girls, I know you all looked better in the pictures I took without the flash. Even though Leah has on her "What you talkin 'bout Willis?" face in this shot...it's still the best one of her and this is her blog so I ran with it. A baby has gotta consider her image these days!
As you can see Leah had a GREAT weekend with her Aunts and Grandma. She also enjoyed being dressed up in some of the outfits we had not yet tried. The ducky dress she's wearing here was chosen especially for Pete's arrival home from his snowboarding trip. What's that you say? You thought he was coming home yesterday? We did too. Until his car decided to break down in Montreal. Sacre bleu!
Leah will no doubt miss all the oohing and aahing she received this weekend from her special guests, but she will also be happy to have Daddy home. She can't wait to show him how her Miliaria (the mystery rash) and the resulting impetigo on her ears has started to heal, to share with him the several new cries and gurgles she currently has in development, and to just snuggle up with him and hear all about his canadian adventure.

Rockin' the cradle cap of love?
You might not be able to see it in the picture, but this is the one that best illustrates the weird rash Leah has on her forehead, neck and ears. There are red blotches on her scalp too (underneath all that hair!) but nothing is flaking off yet so I'm not sure if this is cradle cap or not. We are headed to the pediatrician, at his request, to check her out.
We survived a night without resident diaper changer, Dad. He is off snowboarding with friends In Mt. Tremblant. Lucky for us, we won't be lonely for long. A big girls weekend is happening complete with aunts, a great aunt, and grandma McKenna. Leah is psyched. Maybe everyone fawning all over her will help clear up that rash?

Let Sleeping Babies Lie
For me, the best thing about being a Mom is the cuddling. I know this stage in her life won't last forever so I am taking advantage of it now. Note the remote and phone top left. Very important. I have contemplated buying a toolbelt and wearing it around all day as a phone/remote hoslter. It would also be helpful for carrying snacks, burp cloths, tissues etc. Until then I'll just be here cuddling, with the best little cuddler ever.

The early mommy not only catches the worm, but actually gets some work done. Hence, why I am up at this hour. I'll pay for it later I'm sure. Last night was bath night. Pete and I are actually starting to get the whole bath routine down. Now that we have abandoned the evil (in Leah's opinion) infant bath sling in favor of partial submersion in her little baby tub, the screaming has ceased and things have gotten much easier.
Here, Pete and Leah do their best "blue steel" (Zoolander anyone?). Pete loves to style her hair. After the little photo session (parents got to entertain themselves somehow right?) we then wet it down and try to get it back to normal so that people on the street don't ask me where I got my gremlin. Well, baby is awake so I better go. No rest for the wicked!

Our first post!
At home with a sweet little baby all day? What's a mom to do? Blog of course! I figured this will keep me connected to the world (the one outside of my house), while allowing friends and family a little more insight into the daily exploits of the Nowak family. This picture was taken yesterday, Valentine's Day, right after the little lovebug woke up from a nap. You gotta catch her while you can (ie before the gas sets in). It is sans the very festive red hoodie from Erin Jackson that she wore for the occasion, but includes Leah's newly acquired smile and a cute pink outfit from cousin Carole and the lovely Bella and Ava. Tres chic!
She was quite the hit at my Doctor's Appointment yesterday, and charmed additional admirers today at the post office, bank, and Wegman's. Tommorow we go to the accountant to prepare for tax time. Can Leah inject some fun into that meeting? We'll let you know...
