Lots going on around here! I've finally got around to postng a picture of Leah in her new bed. It's a naptime shot since many of the ones from her 1st night in it are on the dark side. She is sleeping in it amazingly well! She calls for Pete and I when she wants to get up. She settles down well, when going to bed. She has even been taking longer naps and sleeping later in the morning!
I can't say enough great things about the book "Goodnight, Sleep TIght" by "the sleep lady!" It really gave Pete and I a great deal of assistance in our quest to teach Leah how to get herself to sleep. Of course there have been some bumps in the road. Months 6-10 were kind of rough in the sleeping department for Leah, but overall she's been pretty easy to mold and shape.
We are still trying to get our bearings when it comes to Aislin. She's a GREAT night-sleeper (for now! I know the whims of a baby can be very tempestuous!) but has been giving us some trouble at bedtime now that we've transferred her from the bassinet to the crib, but that's been Aisy's M.O. from birth when it comes to putting her down for naps. We're used to it. When her back touches that matress it's like someone just slapped her with a cold, wet, noodle. She wakes right up. The girl tries to fight it, but eventually sleep wins (thank goodness!).
I find Leah is a little cranky upon waking these days, but getting a snack or breakfast into her right when she wakes up seems to help. I think prolonged sleep has her waking up pretty hungry! Pete and I have decided that this one is sort of sensitive to low blood-sugar (much like her Auntie D! Had to give a shout out there...).
Aislin moved from rice cereal to rice cereal with pears this week. As long as you let her hold the spoon and she can pretend like she's helping...she's happy. More pics of Aislin's first feeding coming soon! Happy sleeping and eating everyone!

The one that's full o' blarney!
It's said that one can receive the "Gift of the Gab" by kissing the Blarney Stone at Blarney Castle. Well, Leah's never been to Ireland but she sure does have that famous (or is it infamous?!) Irish skill of flattery and persuasion! On St. Patrick's Day my friend overheard her telling another parent that their baby "is soooo beautiful!!!" Gotta love Leah.
We also found out on St. Pat's that Leah has a tendency to party too hard (she really is part Irish eh?). She ate herself sick that evening at my friend Sarah's house. We tried our best too keep her from the sweets but the girl just can't keep her grubby hands off the treats! Too many cupcakes, cookies and lollipops = no rest for Mommy and Daddy that night. It was ugly but I think the little leprechaun learned her lesson. She has already mentioned to me several times today that too many cookies "makes her sad." Tummy troubles and a nasty sugar crash....nice!
On a positive note Leah transitioned to her bed like a dream!!!! The girl may not have eating down yet...but she sure knows how to get her sleep on! She's napping in "her own bed" (as she calls to anyone that will listen!) right now! What a good girl! Pictures of the big first night in her own bed coming soon!

The wee one...
Happy (almost) St. Patrick's Day! I had to get a shot of "my little good luck charm" up before the big day tomorrow. It's supposed to be cold and snowy here, but Leah is seriously jonesin' for a parade! I know she'd get such a kick out of seeing the irish step dancers, the floats, and the bag-pipers! Luckily, I heard there's a party at a local hotel that looks out onto the festivities (complete with food, a band, and spirits!) so perhaps we can still make it. It wouldn't be fair of me to post just a pciture of Aislin, so I'll try to get one of Leah up before Monday. She looked adorable today wearing her kilt and tam. We're off to get her new mattress now so that we can make the big switcheroo this weekend! Wish us luck!

Princess looking for Prince Charming...
I loved this little outfit that came from my niece Clare. Aisy might be cute, but I don't think she's going to find her prince charming today...she's got a bad case of hives all over her face, arms, and legs. Note: I took this picture a few weeks ago so the hives are not pictured here. Not to worry though, we've already been to the doctor and it looks like they are virus induced hives. They might bother her a bit and she sure does look splotchy, but otherwise they're harmless. We also pretty much ruled out the possibility that these are due to an allergy. All I've given her so far is rice cereal and that's a pretty simple food.
Lots of changes going on for both of our little princesses in the next few days and weeks! As I just mentioned, Aislin has started on solid food. Leah is moving in to her toddler bed and Aisy is inheriting Leah's crib. Finally!!! I love the girl but I am ready to have her out of my room and out of the 100 yr old bassinet (it was my grandfather's as a baby!) that is ready to crumble under all 15lbs. 2 oz, of her! Aislin's room is pretty much done and we're all ready to celebrate! Have a great (warm...yay!) day!

Where's my entourage???
Today's guest photographer is Auntie D. She was quick enough to catch Leah feverishly texting her agent in an attempt to figure out if she could make it on the next flight to Park City for Sundance.
I can just see Leah now... first wheeling and dealing over breakfast with producers from Fox Searchlight. Then she'll hit several of the festival's movies (only the one's with good buzz of course!) before heading off to the slopes. For " aprés snowboard" she'll grab a gourmet coffee-to-go and try and shmooze that screenplay around. The one I know she's been quietly working on up in her room during naps. I think it's got a Tarantino takes on "The Wonder Pets" sort of vibe.
Speaking of naps, Leah will grab a quick one then she's off for a dinner of "seasonal mountain cuisine" (whatever that means?) at the Tree Room. Finally she'll wind down by making a few quick appearances at the Details and IFC parties. Can't stay too long or it will ruin her indie street cred! Then it's back to her condo to catch up on some TiVo'd "Backyardigans" while she sifts through her swag bags. Fun electronics from Apple and yummy gourmet chocolate? Yes! Pencils and lame rubber jewelry? No thanks!
I often hear it said that parents try to live vicariously through their children. That's so true! Except I think most of those parents feel they get to finally play varsity football when their kid makes the team or can live out their lifelong dream of being an artist when their son or daughter gets accepted to RISD. It doesn't usually work, but hey at least it's a little more realistic than creating an entire fantasy life where your toddler attends the most famous film festival this side of L.A. right? True dat.
But...isn't it just so fun to think about Leah buzzing around a little mountain town with the Hollywood elite asking them if they need their Mommy? It is for me. Thanks to Devon for the picture that inspired this little story on my own little drama queen. Seriously...Leah has been working on her acting chops lately (and at the same time working my last nerve at moments!!!), but in this shot...she makes me smile. Maybe someday she'll let me be her personal assistant (I already feel like I am sometimes!) or at the very least perhaps she'll share some of that swag with her Mommy!

"Next visit we'll be sure to schedule the Bubonic Plague!"
That's what my Dad said as we were all getting ready to go home after my road trip last week. You'd never know it from the picture, but Clare and Leah had one of the worst stomach bugs I've ever seen a few days before this shot was taken. Toddlers + vomiting = No Fun. As many of you who are parents know...that there is a standard equation!
My mother and sister even got tagged with the virus that had Kathllen's poor nieces and nephew sick earlier in the week. I think their Mom, Mark's sister, had it worst though...so our hearts went out to her. Needless to say, I escaped with nothing worse than a queasy stomach. And BEHOLD the power of breastmilk! Aislin didn't get sick at all!
There were some tough moments, and my parents' house took a bit of a beating (thankfully they're looking to get new floors put in) but the girls did their best to power through and even managed to have some fun together. I put this shot up for Grammy since she really did take it on the chin. She's still managing that great big smile in this shot after hosting a week-long Pukeapalooza!
Kathleen and I were, at the very least. happy to have each other to hang with as we coaxed our little ones back to health with unflavored pedialyte cut with some "Grover Juice" (squeezed from the very best Grovers avalable). A pediatric nurse taught me the white grape juice trick (because who needs purple vomit?) and while it helps greatly, it still doesn't cover up the nasty pedialyte taste. You knew these girls were feeling terrible though because they actually drank it. Anything to get better!
I"ll be sure to post a few more picks next week from before the puking started. Devon caught a few cute ones of Leah sledding and enjoying the snow! Have a great weekend!
