I promised I'd get a picture in from our visit with Pete's family this weekend. I'd include one of Leah with her cousins...but I can never get all three of the little punks together at one time. I'd include one of Leah and her Uncle John but she never lets him get close enough...poor guy. I bet if we got him to bust out his guitar and sing a few Laurie Berkner or Wiggles tunes she'd be his biggest fan!!! As for Aunt Anne, I was probably just a slacker in that department. Leah likes to let Anne give her all sorts of hugs and kisses, but of course my camera wasn't charged the first day we were there and as a result I think I missed out on catching a few of those sweet moments.
Grandma Barb always makes sure she gets a few shots of herself with her grandchildren in though. No small feat! As I mentioned before they can be tough to wrangle. But Leah was happy to pose for this one. As Anne mentioned...don't they look sweet in their sherbet-y color outfits? I also like the bright green behind them.
Well the little lady is up from her nap and crying, so I better go. We're off to visit Leah's other Grammy tomorrow, along with "Pa!" I'll try to post if I can, but if not...enjoy Memorial Day! Be safe and have fun!

Fingers and Toes
Thanks everyone for your well-wishes regarding Pete's hand. He's got all his fingers thankfully and if you read his comment under yesterday's entry he details the results of his visit to the hand surgeon today. The prognosis is, He's going to live (*just kidding*...his injuries were not that serious) and he's one lucky dishwasher!
Speaking of digits...I had to post this shot of Leah's toes. Aren't they sweet? I love to watch her wiggle them and I was so glad to catch this picture of her sitting amongst her blocks. Enjoy the day everyone. We're dealing with the last (I hope) of a cold front and then maybe spring (or hey summer even!!!!) will be here!

We love Daddy
Well, it was an event-filled weekend! Our Saturday included a trip to the ER (boooo, hisss!) and a trip to see the Nowak/Moore Clan (Hoooray!!! as Leah would say). We woke up early in the morning Saturday so we could hit the road to Grandma's house. Leah wakes up at 6am sharp most every morning so it's not like we have a choice! Pete decided to be a model husband and do some dishes, but apparently 6:30 in the morning is way to early to wash a 10" Henckels Chef knife. He sliced open his left hand pretty badly. Leah cried and we all raced to the hospital. Poor Pete. He survived 3 layers of stiches and his hand is all bandaged up. The cut was so deep he needs to see a hand surgeon, but he has been doing really well in the meantime. Leah also did her best to be a patient girl, although she was concerned for her Daddy, and tried to behave as we waited for him.
Once we got through with the hospital, we headed up to visit with Pete's family. It was a great time. We grilled out and ate some of the best steak I've ever had!!! Yum!!! I'll post pictures of our visit as the week goes on. Leah really enjoyed playing outside with her cousins and spending time with her Grandma, Aunt and Uncle. Leah was also sure to comfort her ailing Daddy when she could. This hug here was after she woke up from a nap at Grandma's house. Leah and Pete had a rare but long (and much needed cuddle session). What a sweet girl!

Giddyup!!!!
The Flickr theme this week is "taking a ride" so I snapped this one of Leah catching a lift with Pete. These two have a little game where Pete lays on the living room floor pretending to be asleep. Then Leah comes up and "knocks" on his head (ever since she learned that you knock on closed doors to get a response, she's tried applying it to all sorts of other situations!). Leah's knocking "wakes Pete Up" with a great big roar, then she pretends to get scared and runs to me for protection (all while giggling wildly I might add!). There's been a new twist lately though, rather than knock, Leah just climbs on to Pete's back (backwards of course) and waits for him to give her a ride. They have a blast and even if it does seem a little nutty and crazy for pre-bedtime play...it makes them happy. And that makes me happy too.

We just got a letter!!!!!
Anyone who's a fan of Blue's Clues knows about "Mail Time." Leah enjoys the mail so much, that she gets excited when our own mail arrives and we've turned getting the mail into our own little ritual. We head to the back door and when we find the treats our postman left for us we sing Leah's favorite song from "Clue" (as she likes to call the show). Let's just say it involves alot of dancing around and crooning "we just got a letter." Then we talk about who our letter is from (it was a Mother's Day card from Auntie D in this picture) and we open it up with much anticipation and enthusiasm. It's a fun little ritual that helps Leah learn about her relatives and friends, holidays, and the everyday aspects of life. Usually it's mostly bills, junk, or catalogs so when we do get a card or letter (I couldn't tell you the last time an actual letter happened! Maybe we need an "Email Song?") it's pretty cool. If you're ever in the mood or find yourself with an extra stamp.... drop Leah a line. She'd greatly appreciate it, and besides...when was the last time someone danced and sang in honor of the mail you sent out? :)

Rainy days and Mondays.....
If Leah had her way she'd watch TV all day long, so I spend a lot of time redirecting her towards other things. A break to watch Blue's Clues is fine, but for the most part, I'd rather her play and be active. The only thing Leah likes more than a chance to grab the remote and turn on the tube, is a trip outside. So we spend a lot of time out back playing with her cozy coup or various balls or visiting Leah's neighbor friends. Unfortunately it's been pretty rainy around here, so we've been spending more time inside. Somehow though, I managed to keep the TV off and her interest piqued. Yesterday she found Pete's "lovey" from when he was a baby, Obi.
As you can see from the picture, Leah loved his little beak. She has a recent interest in owls, actually in all birds, and she has been practicing saying "Who, Who..." Sometimes rainy days aren't so bad. It was fun to get a chance to run around our living room and play and I think Leah thoroughly enjoyed it. I know I was glad to catch such a sweet picture. I know it's one that will probvably melt Pete's heart.

Back in Action!!!
So Leah and I finally made it back to the pool this week. I thought you guys might enjoy a glimpse of her in her swim gear getting ready to head towards the aquatic center. She didn't have much patience when I took this. The concerned and disappointed look on her face is her way of saying "Mommy. What's the hold up? I want to get to the pool NOW!!!!" She did great after being out for a week and "pool" and "suit" (short for bathing suit) are two of her favorite words lately. Our Mother's Day was excellent. Leah got me a hummingbird feeder, which I have wanted for a long time and we went out to brunch at Alto Cinco, a cool mexican restaurant. Leah loves avacado, potatoes, tortilla, eggs, and fruit...so there was lots for her to eat. I had a delicious decaf cappucino with my breakfast burrito and Pete had one of the largest (and probably the only fresh-squeezed) mimosas I've ever seen. WOW!!!! It was a great time and we tried to thoroughly soak up every minute it of it...even if Leah was a bit of a ticking time-bomb. She stuck it out though...eating and playing her way through the meal. Pete and I also realize that when number two comes...such outings won't be as easy. I have a feeling it will be breakfast at home next Mother's Day. That's not a bad thing though. Maybe it will get me breakfast in bed??? I hope all the Mom's out there had a joyous day!

We need a new spring in our step!
My neighbor Jacque brought me some lilacs from her yard yesterday. They were in a pretty blue bottle and definitely put a smile on my face. They also made my kitchen smell really nice. They're not too overpowering, just enough so that every time I walk in the kitchen I think "what smells so good?"
Anyway, Ms. Leah is feeling a little bit better these days. I need some more confirmation that she's headed in the right direction and then I think I can ease her back onto dairy. That will help a lot. All the girl wants right now is a cup of milk, it's hard to deny her too.
Anyway, this flower shot that I took at Mohonk last summer gives me hope. It's been a tough few months and I'm ready for things to improve. Spring is supposed to renew and I know my spirit could use a little rejuvination. In an effort to do just that I promise to charge my camera today so that I can take pictures of Leah to share with all of you. I'm sure she'll be ready for her close-up again (at least this Mommy DeMille thinks so) very soon!!!

The Agony of Defeat
If last week's Mountain Goat picture showed the "Thrill of Victory" as my Uncle Mike and Aunt Marsha mentioned, then I chose to feature another picture from that same day to better explain this week we're having. Poor Leah, after another poopstravaganza yesterday we had to bail on swim class. The poor kid was still lethargic, cranky, and not herself. We ended up heading to the pediatrician instead.
Apparently, she (and half the city population under the age of three) has Rotovirus. It's gross, it's yucky, it's highly contagious, and I wash my hands constantly. The crankiness is from the gut-wrenching stomach cramps and the exhaustion is from the fact that she's literally "pooped!" I now understand the meaning of that phrase, or at the very least I've created my own rationale. Luckily, she's out of the fever and puke stage, although I still have to be very careful with her diet and keep her really hydrated. A tough job since she's rejecting the pedialyte. She's not even loving the pedialyte ice-pops, usually a favorite. She will take water though and she's eating banana, apple sauce, toast and crackers. So that's something. We're on the mend, but it's going to take a little longer than I thought. The doctor says by the end of this week she should be getting back to normal. THANK GOD! That would be the best Mother's Day gift a Mom could ask for.

Upside Down
This picture isn't recent, but I thought it perfectly described our weekend. It was turned completely upside down! On Thursday we got ready to head out to Grandma Nowak's so that she could spend time with Leah while we were at Brent and Amy's wedding. Just as I had LeLe dressed in the cutest outfit ever....she vomited all over it. It was a bad scene.
Luckily she was still in good spirits which made cleanup a lot easier. But just as I finished that up and called Auntie K for some sisterly empathy....the other end of Leah unloaded. All I can say is...Pampers Execs, I wasn't a fan of your Baby-Dry Diapers, but if you need a testamonial for future ad campaigns I'm %100 available!!! I put Leah in the bath and knew we weren't going anywhere that day.
Pete came home early as planned, we made some calls and took care of Leah. We gave her lots of pedialyte and she seemed OK. A little freaked out and not herself, but OK. I had hopes that maybe we could still make it to the wedding.
No dice. She woke up at 1:30 AM Fri with a fever of 104. I thought the puking was scary, but this was worse. She spent all of Fri and much of Sat. just laying on me. Not the most comfortable scenario when you are pregnant, but I enjoyed every single cuddle. I know when she feels better, they won't come so easily. She ate a few crackers and cheerios and a little bit of dry toast Friday. Whining set in on Sat. and she didn't eat much, but her fever broke amd her mood improved by the afternoon. Banana seems to be her main staple right now.
Yesterday, she was up and around but still very cranky. Her sleeping is still very off, but she's on the mend. We just need to make sure she gets enough rest. She's still not eating like she usually does, but she knows her tummy best and I am happy she is going easy on herself.
I know I need a nap after this weekend!! Pete and I were so sad to miss our friends' wedding. We had also been looking forward to getting some time alone together. Well, this weekend provided a different type of bonding experience!! We marvelled at how Leah had made it so far into childhood without ever having a stomach bug or virus as bad as this one. We have been lucky. We changed some scary diapers and felt a little helpless as we watched our baby getting so sick. I know when "Kid X" (that's what we're calling the new baby for now) arrives and we're knee deep in diapers, and toddler chasing, and all the craziness that comes with having 2 under 2 (even if it will only be for a few months), we will laugh and think of how inexperienced we were in dealing with this and how much we learned this weekend. Leah's a trooper and even if she doesn't know it...a great teacher too! Feel better LeLe!!!!!

She loves those cupcakes like McAdams loves Gosling!
So as many of you know it was Pete's birthday on Sunday. I caught this shot of the birthday boy and his favorite girl as they watched an early morning episode of Blues Clues. It's washed out, but I love it that they're in their jammies just chillin'. A perfect lazy sunday (although it didn't stay lazy for long, just like the SNL sketch).
I made Pete angel food cupcakes to celebrate the big 3-5, which he really liked (the cupcakes...not the turning 35 although he didn't seem to mind that much either). And Leah liked them even more. The girl likes her sugar! Today we are headed to celebrate the birthday of another Pete, our neighborhood friend. He's having a birthday playdate to celebrate the fact that he's turning 2. It should be fun! Well we better get going, lots to do! Gotta change Leah, pack up the diapers, throw the snacks in the bag and we're Ghost like Swayze....

Rescue Me!
I titled today's entry "rescue me" because of the look on Leah's face in this shot. I took this picture at the Great MOPS Walk this weekend. You wouldn't know it from the photo but Leah had a geat time. The dog balloon didn't even last for half the walk, but she enjoyed seeing the other Moms, having lunch with the otehr kids and was a good girl sticking it out in her stroller the entire time. It was nice to get out on such a beautiful day, and since it was Daddy's birthday we let him stay home for several hours of uninterrupted "Pete time." Of course he used it to do household chores he couldn't do with us home, like removing the wallpaper borders (goodbye baskets of apples!!! How I couldn't stand you!) and sanding the cracks in our back entryway. It was HIS choice!!!! :)
As for me, I am feeling a little better. Wrapping up the many jobs I've got going is taking a lot of work, but it is somewhat fun and I do enjoy the interactions I have with brides. Weddings are great!! And Pete and I are looking forward to our friends' Brent an Amy getting hitched this weekend. Leah is looking forward to a weekend at Grandma Barb's house. It sould be fun for all!!!!!

Yipppeeeee!!!!!!
I LOVE this shot of Leah cheering on the runners in the annual Mountain Goat race yesterday. Every year, this great event passes through our neighborhood. Our street gets shut down since it is part of the course, and everyone gets out their music, bubble machines, signs and good spirits to encourage the participants. This is a challenging run from what I hear. Lots of hills and valleys. The runners come down a big hill and land right in front of our house.
Leah recently mastered "hooray!!!" (as you can see from her upstretched arms) and this little girl could barely contain her enthusiasm and excitement yesterday when the runners came by. She clapped, she yelled, she stomped up and down. She was a delight to watch!...Even more fun than watching the race itself!!
