More on Fashion and Food...
We had a request from loyal Sugar Hiccups fan John DeMott, who wanted details on our anniversary dinner. I'm happy to oblige. First, we started off the evening at a great bar called Flûte. You can read all about the Kir Royale tasting we did here, on my other blog Design is Everywhere. Then it was off to Mesa Grill. Dinner in one word? Awesome.
We started out with Spicy Tuna and Salmon Tartares for Pete, which came with these incredible plantain chips; and Blue Corn Crusted Squid for me. Yum. Pete got the Red and Black Pepper crusted filet and ordered his steak as he always does "Black and Blue" (a preparation also known as Pittsburgh Rare). Mesa Grill got it exactly right, which is a rarity among restaurants (no steak pun intended). Not surprising though, at a place where the chefs are undoubtedly hand-picked or trained by the grill master himself. I had the Ancho Chile-Honey Glazed Salmon, with a black bean sauce, tomatillo salsa, and a jalepeno crema. It was delicious. Being the goat cheese fanatic that I am, I could not leave dinner without ordering something with my favorite ingredient in it. So we split a Chorizo-Goat Cheese Tamale as a side. Mmmm...why hadn't I thought to pair chorizo and goat cheese before? Probably cause I'm not Bobby Flay.
As the Zagats said, the decor is a little long in the tooth, and it was seriously crowded, but all that didn't bother me. They stuck a candle in our Tres Dulce De Leche Cake, we chowed on dessert and then called it a night. Like I said, fun was had by all...even the babysitters!

Playing Catch Up!
K and Mark came to visit for a bit with Megan and Clare and much dress-up insanity ensued. I'll post a few more over the weekend or next week. But for now, here are Leah and Clare dressed as Uncle Mike. Oy! I'll be back to post again soon!
