It doesn't sound as nice as "Water Lilies At Giverny, 1908" but I still thought this shot needed an impressionist title. No photoshop filters here. I just took a shot while running after my own little runner (who's carrying a dark purple purse to match her outfit).
This picture sort of says it all, even with it's blur, shadows, and shifting light. While life at home might sound calm and slow, it's not really. Not that it moves at warp speed either. Believe me, some days seem to go on forever and I find myself watching the clock and thinking "Pete, where are you???" (he's at work or driving home by the way...responsible Dad that he is. Hi Honey!!!).
Life with a one year old seems a lot like an impressionist painting: reality depicted in transient terms. It's not about speed or slowness, just change. The transient terms the impressionists used were the ever changing light and color in a setting. My reality is depicted through the transient moods and development of Leah! Just like the impressionists try to give you the general impression of a moment using unmixed colors and small strokes, I try and express my life's moments through quick photographs and a few short words on this blog.
But it's Leah who's really the artist. Even if she doesn't know it, she's more than the muse for this blog. She's the architect behind it. Leah and her moods, changes, and growth, are my light and color. And while this photo might look like we're moving at light speed, it's really just our depiction of all the changes, newness and insanity that comes in a moment of life at home with a toddler.
