Chillin' State Fair Style, 9. 2008's Butter SculptureI have to take a break from filling you all in on the details of our vacation (which I've barely started) to share some pictures from this weekend's trip to the 2008 Great New York State Fair. What a fun (and trippy!) way to spend a Labor Day with the kids.
The pictures really say it all. I mean, "The Mullet Count?!" It scares me to know that 491 mullets were seen last week at the Fair! And you thought you knew New York. Of course there was also the butter sculpture (my friend Jen said she could feel her arteries clogging as she looked at it...so true!) and lots of cheese to be sampled (possibly Aislin's favorite part of the day). A few pictures, I took that can be seen on my flickr set, but didn't make it into the mosaic are the sand sculpture and a "live" version of the Statue of Liberty. The girls kind of freaked when the "statue" quickly flashed me the peace sign, then went back to her normal stance.
The girls LOVED the animals and didn't mind posing as a few as well. Don't you just Love the angora rabbit that totally looks like The Shaggy Dog?! The kids also got a big kick out of hearing the Grand Champion Rooster Crowing Contest and seeing the brightly colored poultry (huh?!). Always a hit...visiting the dairy barn. How sweet is that little calf?
Then there were the rides! Leah loved going on the big ferris wheel and a roller coaster with Pete, as well as on the swings by herself. Aislin was treated to a trip down the super slide with Pete as well. Leah played a game and we were all ready to head home. Once last stop in at the sheep barn where there was a shearing demo going on and we hit the road...for the longest 10 minute ride home ever. It was HOT and we were zonked.
